Like several of her family members, Maya Horgan keeps music and security close. Her father, Mike, owner of H&S Protection, along with her brother David and sister Ally, all work at H&S. The family also shares a passion for music.
Maya not only plays the ukelele, piano and guitar, but also sings and appreciates listening to music for its shear joy. She also loves to be outdoors, paint and draw, and spend as much time as possible with friends and family.
As a Horgan family member, she knew about H&S early in her life, but didn’t feel she knew much about the business while growing up. “Having had the opportunity to work here for the past nine months has helped me learn much more about the business,” she said.
Previous to H&S, Maya worked at Rogan Shoes as a sales associate and manager for five years, starting at age 16. After that, she worked as a bartender downtown in Stevens Point at The Outfit.
At H&S, she currently works in accounting and office administration. She sends out checks, creates invoices, completes monthly bank reconciliations and “anything else people would like me to do. I would like to take on more responsibilities this year.”
In addition to Mike, David and Ally, Maya’s mother is Lori and she has another sister Emily, who is a music teacher for grades K-6.
Maya’s favorite thing about H&S is “being able to work hands-on in the business world while attending online business school. I am in my third year at UW-Whitewater, although I am in my fifth year overall after transferring from UW-Eau Claire. I am studying Business Management, so it is a great opportunity for me to become more educated about the business world in a hands-on environment.”
Her first day on the job – March 1, 2024 — might have been her most unusual, as Office Manager Jeff Lukasavige was working his last day before retirement. “It was a bit strange starting that day, with Jeff leaving,” she chuckled.
