Installation “Red Flags”

How can you spot a poorly installed security system? Here at H&S, we have the expertise to ensure consistent, high-quality installations; we also recognize when we visit with a prospective customer if a previous install wasn’t up to snuff. It’s important that we understand the difference and can make that distinction so our customers also recognize when they need an update or change.

We quizzed our team on what a bad install looks like to them. Here are a few items for you to consider if you think your current system isn’t looking or operating the way it should be:

1. Messy Wiring

Don’t settle for a tangle of wires. If your wiring looks like a plate of security-system spaghetti, consider giving us a call. We’ll take a look at it and see what we can improve.

2. Crooked keypads and motion sensors

Alarm installations should look good. If they are tilting, it could be a sign they are not well-installed. As Danny says in the video linked below, “Use a level, okay?”

3. Poorly placed cameras

This is one of our biggest pet peeves. Cameras exist to capture activity; that’s fundamental. If a camera is blocked by a pole, buried in a tree, or pointed at the sky, it’s not adding function to your system. You want intentionally placed cameras, targeted to locations where you WANT coverage.

Recently, we made a short video on poor installs. Here is the link.

You might get a laugh out of it, but you’ll also get some good points that help you identify areas to improve. If you find that is the case, please reach out to H&S in central Wisconsin at 715-344-0727 or southeast Wisconsin at 262-574-7777.
